One reason why some women get cosmetic surgery is low self-esteem (Gorbis). They believe that getting
surgery will boost their confidence. It may for some time, but there will always be obstacles in life. Getting cosmetic surgery may not be fixed by surgery--- it is a mental issue--- If a woman got surgery to look more beautiful and to get more confidence, what are the chances that another problem on her face would not come back?
Surgeons need to tell their patients that plastic surgery can also be addicting. Because if a woman gets facial surgery, and she sees another problem, she will most likely go back to get another surgery. It is the patient's right to know the risks of getting plastic surgery since they are high and unpredictable. The risks include anesthesia risks, bleeding, infection, poor healing, and mood swings (Gorbis). The surgeon never knows what will happen during a surgery. Cosmetic surgery is very expensive and patients need to know how much money the expenses will cost for a surgery. Americans have spent over $7 billion last year in surgical procedures alone (Gorbis). There is a negative opinion in society about cosmetic surgery because it is unnatural. Rumors spread around and people start to notice the person who received surgery. The fact that someone paid money to change how he or she looks is gossip to people. Cosmetic surgery is unnatural (Gorbis). |
